Big win for NASA as incumbent Taita-Taveta CA speaker and deputy retain posts
The opposition National Super Alliance (NASA) has scored another first in Taita-Taveta county after thethe coalition won both the speaker and deputy speaker seat in the Taita-Taveta county assembly.
During the hotly contested seat, incumbent Maghanga Meshack Maghanga of ODM beat his fiercest rival Janet Mwawasi Oben of Jubilee 11 -8 during the third round of voting.
In the first round ,Maghanga got 10 votes against Janet’s 9 votes. This led to a second round of voting, as the law requires that the winners gets two-thirds of the votes cast in the first round which would have been 13. In the second round, Mghanga tied with Janet 10-10 forcing the third round where Maghanga beat Janet to retain his position.
The deputy speaker Crispus Tondoo of Ford Kenya which is part of NASA coalition also retained his seat.
Richard Tairo was forced to eat humble pie after he got zero votes. Tairo lost to Johnes Mwaruma during the ODM nominations for the senator seat. He was then picked by former Wundanyi MP Thomas Mwadeghu as his running mate for governor. Mwadeghu lost together with Tairo, coming a distant fourth after the winner Graton Samboja, John Mruttu and Dan Mwazo.
Earlier on, there was confusion and anxiety as Raymond Mwangola, who was initially perceived as the preferred candidate for the post, withdrew his candidature.
